Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug known as Motrin, Advil, Nuprin or Nurofen.  The daily Ibuprofen dosage differs from a product to another or from a medical condition to another.
Never change your Ibuprofen dosage by yourself without consulting your doctor who prescribed you this treatment and knows your medical situation. Even if you don’t feel different after the treatment is over, don’t take this pills further without medical advice. Ibuprofen should be administrated maximum 10 days as pain relief and maximum 3 days in case of fever.
In case of acute pain, the recommended Ibuprofen dosage for adults and youths over 12 years should be four pills of 200 mg (1 pill administrated at every 6 hours). The maximum Ibuprofen dosage for acute pain should not exceed more than six pills of 200 mg (1 pill administrated at every 4 hours). For a faster action of ibuprofen you can use two pills at a time, but remember not to exceed the maximum Ibuprofen dosage for one day.
Sometimes, in some medical conditions, doctors can prescribe more than the maximum Ibuprofen dosage limit per day if is the case.
For children under 12 years the Ibuprofen dosage should be prescribed by a doctor even if instructions are one the pillbox. Your doctor knows the best what medical condition has your child.
As mentioned before do not take Ibuprofen for pain relief by yourself more than 10 days of treatment with out consulting your doctor. If the fever is not retreating after 2-3 days of Ibuprofen you should better consult a doctor and mention what pills you consumed and how many.
For painful menstruation the recommended Ibuprofen dosage is between 1600 mg and 2400 mg per day depending on the intensity of pain (1 pill at four or six hours). But you should better consult a doctor before taking this amount of dosage (remember that your family doctor is aware of your medical history and your present medical condition).
If you suffer from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis the daily Ibuprofen dosage could vary between 1200 mg and 3200 mg (4 pills of 200 mg ; 3-4 pills of 400 mg ; 3-4 pills of 600 mg or 3-4 pills of 800 mg). But again, you better consult a doctor before taking Ibuprofen by yourself. If condition does not change, your doctor can change the pills with another ones.
In some cases, Ibuprofen is working at it’s full power only after one or two weeks, depending on the medical situation that you suffer from (ex: some arthritis symptoms), but relieves pain only after 45 minutes.
